Earlier this month, I had the pleasure of speaking at Aiken County Public Library for their literary convention, A*Con!
My first impression of Aiken is that it is beautiful. It has that very cozy, homey, earthy feel that I love so much about the lowcountry. And the particular branch I visited is gorgeous! It’s right across the street from a playground that my sons had a ball in.
I spoke to a group that spanned a wide age range (I truly loved this format!) and talked about my writing process, journey thus far, and the inspiration behind my books. As I told them, it was the first time I publicly talked about my writing process and inspiration behind GIRL FROM THE ASHES! After both the presentation and the book signing, I had the chance to personally talk to a few readers and had heartfelt conversations that I really cherished.
I have always loved and been a champion of the public library, and this visit reinforced my reasonings why. I love books, and I love people. Being able to speak at a library convention that so many people showed up for and participated in (the line for the costume contest was super long and those costumes were amazing!), meeting and talking to so many people from different walks of life, and being in a historical building that prioritizes the love and need for books, are blessings that I don’t take lightly!
Thank you so much, Aiken County Public Library, for having me and I would love to visit again.
